Plettenberg Bay, situated two hours west of Port Elizabeth, offers the perfect holiday.

Plett, as fondly known by the locals, is a feast for the eyes from every angle, offering ocean and mountain views, with the odd dash of winter snow on the high peaks of the Outeniqua mountains in winter, surrounding it's massive natural Bay.

Plett Real Estate is of the most expensive in the country. Plots and buildings are large and spaced out. Due to the layout of the hills in town, almost every property has stunning sea or river views. The local authorities have largely protected Plett from over development. Plett's beauty attracts many artists, tired city workers, international tourists and Polo players throughout the year.

Homes come in a variety of designs ensuring each estate is completely unique where owners can stamp their identity on the property. The weather is different from the neighbouring Eastern Cape because of the surrounding mountains, with wet winters and long hot summers. As a result, Plett has a very tropical feel to it.

A small airport provides landing for private jetsetters, and a few extreme activities such as sky diving and paragliding.

Helicopter rides are available between Knysna and Plett, a great way to view the coastline.

Plett is situated around a wide river mouth where holiday makers enjoy jet boats, jet skis, water skis and fishing. Long white sandy beaches are used for horse riding, surfing, boogy boarding, beach volleyball and tennis. The focus is most definately on getting the best out of mother nature.

Polo is well established in Plett, and lately equestrian estates can be seen dotted all over the country side. Kurland Polo hosts local, national and international matches, and British Royals have been spotted playing at Bitou, a private estate.

Plett's most impressive natural feature is Robberg. The Island has been turned into a nature reserve with a four hour walk around it.

It is undeveloped but limited accomodation is available in the form of a tiny wooden shack on the point that can be rented for weekends. This is back to basics living and everything including toilet paper needs to be carried to the shack on foot accross overhanging cliffs.

Crystal clear waters create the home of a thriving seal population and where dolphin and whale spotting can be done. It is also accesable by chartered boats that leave from the main beach at the Beacon Isle Hotel.
The Beacon Isle Hotel has a popular restaurant that hangs over rock and sea.

The hotel offers an infinity pool with views over the bay, safe swimming beaches and a lagoon for kiddies to play in. A must for any South African Holiday maker.

A stone's throw away to the East of Plett is the Storms river Gorge, bungy jumping, monkey Land, the snake park and bird world. Monkey land is expecially great for kids, because the enclosure is a large area of natural forest with a suspended bridge over tree tops where apes from all over the world can be seen in their natural habitat. Storms river mouth has another swinging bridge, but this one is over a river mouth with hungry sharks!
